One of those partnerships is with Americans for Prosperity (AFP) and In Pursuit Of serves as their full-service communications capability.  

 

We are currently seeking an experienced communications professional to serve as Vice President of Communications for Americans for Prosperity. The individual will lead the development and execution of a comprehensive communications strategy for the nation’s largest grassroots advocate for a free and open society.

 

AFP exists to recruit, educate, and mobilize citizens in support of the policies and goals of a free society at the local, state, and federal level, helping every American live their dream – especially the least fortunate. They use cutting-edge tools and technology to support a network of 36 state chapters and over 3.2 million engaged citizens who are working to bring that vision to life.

 

The ideal candidate is a passionate and experienced professional who can bring sophisticated media relations and marketing strategies together to manage multiple concurrent projects and initiatives. Ideally, this candidate is experienced in public relations, rapid response, omni-channel marketing, paid media strategy, branding, compliance, and project management.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a key member of the AFP leadership team.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive communications strategies and plans that positions the organization to advance the operational and policy goals of the organization as determined by the Chief Executive Officer, Policy Director and other senior executives.
  • Work collaboratively with the full-scale capabilities of In Pursuit Of, including press, digital, creative, writing and research teams to develop, distribute and maintain quality content, collateral and other assets as needed, and co-manage joint projects as necessary.
  • Oversee the development of interesting and informative issue campaigns, both nationally and within the states, that educate the public and drive engagement.
  • Manage media relationships and serve as the organization’s primary on-the-recordspokesperson to media outlets and other external audiences.
  • Optimize media opportunities to insert the organization’s POV and drive narratives in the press, including the development and use of key leaders and policy experts as media surrogates.
  • Oversee and help direct regional communication efforts, including media relations, message consistency, and brand strategies, that support grassroots chapters across the country.
  • Work closely with legal, policy and other internal organizations to ensure that all communications accurately reflect the organization’s policy positions and are compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Provide support, including speechwriting, media training, and interview preparation, for senior executives.
  • Plan, develop and execute communications that inform internal stakeholders.
  • Manage external vendor agreements and relationships.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 7+ years of experience in public relations, marketing, campaigns, or other professional communications.
  • Experience with center-right policies is preferred.
  • At least 3 years management/supervisory experience.
  • Proven ability to speak on the record required; experience on TV and radio preferred.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while coordinating with multiple stakeholders in a highly deadline-driven, fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working with public opinion research organizations, and a proven ability to integrate public opinion research into highly effective communication plans and activities.
  • Innovative and willing to challenge the status quo and envision what could be.
  • Customer-focused attitude.
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and creatively when developing new issue campaigns.
