    In Pursuit Of is a full-service communications and marketing capability that drives ideas and shapes debates in pursuit of a free and open society. Our mission-driven partnerships advance policy, political, and cultural change that enable people to improve their lives. One of those partnerships is with Cause of Action Institute (CoA) and In Pursuit Of serves as their full-service communications capability. 

     

    Cause of Action Institute is a 501(c)(3) oversight group advocating for economic freedom and individual opportunity advanced by honest, accountable, and limited government. We are looking to hire a Director of Communications to continue to generate and build communications strategies that drive media coverage and public awareness for its investigations, litigation, and issue areas.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop and execute communications strategies for a variety of projects including investigations, litigation, and policy issue areas to help shape the narrative in the media and to reinforce and achieve CoA’s goals.
    • Draft effective material such as media pitches, press releases, op-eds, social media, and web content, as well as edit content produced by staff.
    • Collaborate with attorneys and staff and outside groups on message development and strategy.
    • Conduct proactive media pitching to radio, print, television and online outlets garnering positive media coverage, and identify new and ongoing strategies for pitching our issues.
    • Build targeted media lists and research relevant reporters and build relationships as appropriate. Work with prospective and new clients to help establish a media relations strategy.
    • Engage in entrepreneurial thinking to develop ideas for digital and visual media concepts that will push our messages to a broader audience.
    • Manage junior communications staff.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree is preferred
    • 4-8 years of professional experience in media outreach is strongly preferred
    • Professional experience within a PR firm, Hill office, or campaign is preferred
    • Demonstrated success in leading and implementing effective communications plans that generate results
    • Possess solid understanding of and relationships with reporters at leading national newspapers, magazines, broadcast, and online outlets that cover issues relevant to the mission of the organization
    • Experience managing full-time staff is required
    • Must be highly motivated, a self-starter, detail-oriented, organized, and possess a commitment to excellence
    • Experience juggling multiple issues, clients, and accounts is required
    • An understanding of free market principles and a passion for advancing the mission of the organization is required
